In this project, we develop a personal mobility vehicle (PMV) that has capabilities of getting over a step, a gap and a slope. In addition, we propose a mobility support system (MSS) for the PMVs. MSS can support a driver informatively and assistively to control a PMV.

One example of the proposed system is a new transportation system combined with a railway system.

  • Personam mobility vehicle (PMV)

  • In an urban area, some examples of access barriers are steps at the entrances of buildings, curbs without ramps, and gutters and holes in the road. Therefore, it is necessary for PMVs to have capabilities of getting over those barriers. In addition, if a PMV gets on a train, it also needs to overcome a gap between a platform and the train. In this project, we develop the PMV that can move on such rough terrains with maintaining a driver seat horizontally.

  • Mobility support system (MSS)

  • In huge and crowded public spaces, such as a train station, an airport and a park, MSS can support a driver informatively and assistively to control a PMV. For example, when going through a narrow ticket gate, it is useful to guide the PMV automatically.
