Sato Naoko-san, a post-doc of the Radio Telescope Project, and other members tried to detect HI 21 cm line using the 2-m prototype antenna. We finally got the first light (wave) of the 21 cm from the Galactic Center.

NewEar [J] conducts Radio Telescope Project [J]. Replacement of 8-meter dish was successfully made at Misato `Radio' Observatory. This 8-meter disk will observe neutral hydrogen 21-cm emission.

We have a project on HI 21cm observation using newly developed radio telescope. An antenna with 2m aperture has been used for the test observations. It is some work to carry the 2m antenna from 'Crea' building (pic / pic / pic / pic). Due to poor stability of amplifiers, even 'R-sky' was hard to measure. Anyway, we observed on-source (Milky Way, Cygnus) and off-source and tried to see the difference. We could say there was a line centered on 1.421 GHz, with a width of about 2 MHz and a peak intensity of about 0.1 dB (pic / pic). We should have more stable amplifier and better receiver.


The NewEar project has new members, and now the project consists of 12 members. Kamitamari-san and Furuya-san received their appointment from head of Center for Education and Research of Lifelong Learning.

I stayed at Okayama Astrophysical Observatory (OAO). I joined a test observation of KOOLS, a newly developed optical Cassegrain spectrograph, conducted by Dr. Ikuru Iwata of OAO.
