Science and Technology visited the astronomical observatory of
Faculty of Education,
on their tour of inspecting facilities of Wakayama University.

I attended the final lecture of Dr. Ryuko Hirata,
Department of Astronomy, Kyoto University, and
farewell party of Dr. Hirata and Ms. Natsuko Ikemura,
the librarian.

Crea Symposium, `Science Communication,
Who, Where, and How' was held.
I gave a talk about
collaboration of Wakayama University and local public astronomical
observatories for student education.

I attended an international colloquium, `Seamless Culture through
Science Communication' organized by National Institute of Science
and Technology Policy (NISTEP) held at Shinagawa, Tokyo.
The banquet room was beautiful

I gave lecture for Wakayama University students.
Using the astronomical image processing software of `Makalii',
they made color-magnitude (V-R vs V) diagram of
an open star cluster M 67
(students working in the computer room,
Yaji-san also tried).

I gave lecture at Madoka Hall, the Kishiwada City Hall,
for Science Partnership Program for Kishiwada city school teachers.
Yunoki-san of Kishiwada City Science and Technology Education Center,
Shibahara-san and Yamaguchi-kun of juniors of Wakayama University,
and Yaji-san of Wakayama University/National Astronomical Observatory
of Japan helped the lecture.

We showed slides made of PAONET (Public Astronomical Observatory NETwork)
material in the planetarium dome
(Shibahara-san explaining,
(Yamaguchi-kun explaining).
Then, lecture attendance made a small telescope
(making the telescope),
(Yaji-san checking the telescope).

I gave lecture for graduate students at Nara University of Education;
Astronomy and Planetary Science.

As an activity of Astronomy group of the Caravan Class,
about 10 students visited the Company Dormitory at Wakayama of
Japan Air Lines and
opened the astronomy class, planetarium, slide show, picture-story show,
and handicraft of constellation, for children group of ages of from 0 to 12.

I attended Kiso Symposium 2004 held at a public hall of Kiso-Fukushima.
I talked with a title of `Study of Star Formation History of
Dwarf Irregular Galaxies'.

I attended 9th `Tenmou' (astronomy-internet collaboration) meeting
held at Center for Information Science, Wakayama University.
Main topics were remote teaching using internet and robotic telescopes.

Nakamura Tsuko-san of National Astronomical Observatory of Japan,
Suzuki Kazuyoshi-san of National Science Museum visited
Wakayama University,
and proposed local studies based on
historical materials.

The Venus transits the Sun.
But it was rainy and cloudy all day at Wakayama University,
so we did not observe the transit.
The SSH class 6 students of Toin Senior High School
visited us with teachers, Shimizu Hiroyuki-san and Shimada Hirofumi-san
(from 14:30 to 16:00).
We see the web cast images
by LIVE! VENUS 2004.
The students learned about the telescope
in the dome.
They will try an exercise of calculating 1 AU from the images.

I visited Toin Senior High School, Wakayama, and proposed
a science education project of calculating a distance of 1 astronomical unit
that would be made using the Venus transit images on 8 June.
Shimizu Hiroyuki, a science teacher, has an SSH (super science high school)
class of 6 2nd-grade students, and they will join this project.

held at National Astronomical Observatory of Japan.

160 students of Attached Junior High School visited Wakayama University
on their way to their training camp.
They enjoyed visiting astronomical observatory.
Due to bad weather, observation of the Sun could not made.
Kuno-kun and Takenaka-kun guided.

I stayed at a hotel, Hayashi, for
freshperson's training camp.

The Astronomy Observation Class was held at
Okayama Astrophysical Observatory, National Astronomical Observatory of Japan.
I worked as one of instructors.
Four students of Okayama University and four students of Hiroshima
University joined the class.

The observatory area was full of cherry blossoms
(pic).
The main telescope, 188-cm reflector, was painted in blue
(pic).
Kawabata Kohji-san of Hiroshima University gave lecture
for the most part.
They reduced images of a planetary nebula, NGC 2392,
and discussed its kinematical structures
(pic,
pic).
