I participated in Devision meeting of Astronomy and Astrophysics and Division meeting of IAU, under the Committee of Physics, Science Council of Japan, as an observer. I serve chair of NAEC, National Astronomy Education Coordinator team, of Japan, under OAE, Office of Astronomy for Education, IAU, International Astronomical Union, endorced by the IAU Division of Science Council of Japan.

I participated in an online research discussion group on the educational use of hscMap view images taken by HyperSupimeCam, an ultra-wide-field imager on the Subaru Telescope, led by Hara Tadashi-san, Usuda-Sato Kumiko-san, Hiratsuka Yu-ichiro-san, Togashi Tamiki-san.

I participated in the 12th ELSI International Symposium in collaboration with CO World project “Emergence and Detection of Life,” the Aftershop 4: Perspectives on the Potential Discovery of Life beyond Earth, held at Tokyo Institute of Technology, Ookayama Campus, Meguro, Tokyo, Japan. We also had research discussions with Thilina Heenatigala and Pedro Russo.

As vice director of Collaborative Education and Research Office, I participated in a symposium held at I-site Namba, Osaka Metropolitan University, to commemorate the opening of the Preparatory Office for the Establishment of the Center for Education on Space (tentative name).

Astronomy Day in Schools project is one of the activities of the WG of Astronomy Education Research & Methods, Comission C1: Astronomy Education and Development, Division C: Education, Outreach and Heritage, IAU. We have been having the quarterly on-line communication program on the occasion of equinoxes and solstices. This time, as the December solstice program, many students participated in the program, and practices from Japan, Thailand, Iran, Bulgaria, Romania were introduced. Tomita organized the program. The records will be archived at YouTube channel of the Astronomy Day in Schools project.

I participated in the online program, Workshop: Remembering Jay, organized by NASE, Network for Astronomy School Education, the teacher-training program of the International Astronomical Union; memories of Jay Pasachoff and reports on the occultation of Betelgeuse.

In partial charge of the class of Introduction to Earth Science for the pre-service teacher-training course for high school science teacher at Nara Women's University, I had classed at Nara Women's University. Professor Dr. Shigeo Yamauchi, the dean of Faculty of Science, Nara Women's University, kindly invited me and arrange the schedule.

I attended a meeting of Advisory Committee meeting of Kiso Observatory, Institute of Astronomy (IoA), University of Tokyo, held at Mitaka Campus of IoA. I also visited the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan and the office the Astronomical Society of Japan and discussed with staff.

I participated in 2023 2nd Space Education Advisory Committee of Wakayama Prefecture Education Board, and Wakayama Prefectural Kushimoto-Koza Senior High School Consortium Meeting, held online, as one of the committee member.

I participated in a lecture titled “Searching for the Second Earth: Linking Telescopes and Solar System Exploration” by Dr. Saeko S. Hayashi of the TMT Project, National Astronomical Observatory of Japan, held at Attached Junior High School, Faculty of Education, Wakayama University; as a part of NAOJ staff delivery program.

I attended the 2023 online meeting of the Counselors of Kwasan Astro Culture Foundation, as one of the board members. Following the meeting, I participated in the online lecture series of the Committee Discussing Future of Kyoto Kwasan Observatory, “An X-ray Astronomer Challenging the Mystery of Lightning with Citizen Science,” by Enoto Teruaki-san of Kyoto University staff.

I participated as one of the referees in the NASA Space Apps Challenge Kushimoto 2023, held at the Shionomisaki Youth House (Kushimoto Town, Wakayama Prefecture). This event was held from October 7 to 8, and I participated on the second day, October 8 (organized by NASA / Space Apps Challenge Kushimoto Organizing Committee, co-organized by by Study Group of Space Education in Wakayama).

I performed with members of the brass band club of Soai Junior and Senior High Schools, “Astronomy and Music Concert for Parents and Children: Hear, See, and Touch,” held at Kita-Mido Temple, Honmachi, Chuo-ku, Osaka City, as part of a monthly event sponsored by the Osaka City Chuo-ku Children and Child-Care Plaza. I gave a talk on astronomy using the NAOJ-4D2U simulator, Mitaka. We had a dry run at the site on August 31.

I participated in the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion Seminar of Wakayama University. Nakamura Natsuko-san of an editorial member of Nihon Keizai Shimbun (Japanese Economic Newspaper) gave a lecture, “DEI and work style in the post COVID-19 Era: why DEI now, and how to be an organization of choice.”

I participated in the Kansai Educational ICT Exhibition held at INTEX Osaka, Osaka City. I participated in seminars on the Panasonic Education Foundation's Presentation of Year 2023, on Academic Research Cases that Realized the Education DX (digital transformation), and on Examples and Possibilities of Educational Use of VR (virtual reality) and Metaverse (Maeda Masashi-san provided a topic).

For the Kaizuka City Children's Doctor Training Program, the astronomy program is running based at Zenbei Land, a telescope museum in Kaizuka City. I was in charge of the today's program, the fifth of this academic year. Five of 5th and 6th graders and their parents enjoyed activities. Through hands-on experience, the students enjoyed how to use a convex lens as a magnifier and as an image-maker, and they understood how cameras, projectors, and telescopes work.

As part of the one-on-one dialogue between Office of Astronomy for Education (OAE) of the International Astronomical Union (IAU) and the National Astronomy Education Coordinator (NAEC) of each country, there was a Zoom dialogue meeting between Eduardo Monfardini Penteado of OAE and the NAEC Japan team, for about 1.5 hours.

I was in charge of the today's program, the fourth of this academic year. Five of 5th and 6th graders and their parents enjoyed activities including making the ruler to measure angles and the simplidied quadrant of NASE, the teacher training program of the International Astronomical Union.

For the Kaizuka City Children's Doctor Training Program, the astronomy program is running based at Zenbei Land, a telescope museum in Kaizuka City, and I and Akiyama Hiroaki-san are in charge of the program. Today was the first of this academic year. Akiyama-san focused on the theme of measuring the size of the Sun, the Moon, and the Earth. He demonstrated various methods of measuring.

I attended the session of the practical activities of the Kinki Area National University Attached Schools Federation and the Kinki Area National University Attached Schools PTA Association, held at Attached Junior High School, Faculty of Education, Wakayama University, Wakayama.

The board meeting of the Astronomical Society of Japan was held on line, and I participated in the meeting as the director in charge of astronomy education. This was the last board meeting I attended during my current term.

I particiapted in the regular meeting on science education research in early childhood to lower-grade school years, the research group of KSRUG, held on line over zoom, organized by Kotani Takuya-san of Osaka Ohtani University. This time, we had a joint discussion with the teachers of a nursery school and the publisher staff.

I had an hour virtual star tour in the room using the simulator Mitaka for 5th graders of Isao Elementary School, Wakayama City, at two day-camp at Kada International Exchange Youth Center. Ohata Hazuki-san, Fumino Itsuki-san, Okubo Shuto-san, Kubo Riki-san, and Shimogaki Nanami-san of seiminar students, joined and observed the activity.

AstroEdu2023, an international meeting on astronomy education was held at the University of Toronto, Toronto, Ontario, Canada, with the theme of Bridging Research & Practice. I attended the meeting as a member of the scientific organizing committee and as a presenter. I arrived in Toronto on May 9 attending a meeting for preparation, visited the Royal Ontario Museum and other museums on May 13, and left Toronto on May 14.
