授業の概要・ねらい /Course Aims |
This course offers a general overview of Japanese literature through a selection of works of various eras and genres with a focus on construction and function of the image of the native place furusato 故郷. We will observe the evolution and expressive richness of the furusato trope and its important connection to historical and cultural, personal and collective experience. We will connect our findings to texts produce by Wakayama authors and the region. |

到達目標 /Course Objectives |
Gain general familiarity with Japanese literary works and the methods of text and context-based literary analysis. Learn appreciation for literary texts through exposure to secondary sources. Adopt inter-disciplinary perspective (straddling the areas of education, economy, and tourism) through the image of the native place (furusato). Develop an interest in Wakayama-based cultural production. |

Class content related test 25%; personal history component (account on student's reading history related to Japanese literature or the literature of one's home country from a perspective of furusato) 25%; Final research paper 50% |
