授業の概要・ねらい /Course Aims |
This course offers an overview of the ideological and cultural background of Japan's modernization (Meiji period) and postwar "economic miracle" (1960s) from the perspectives of economic affluence and mental/environmental sustainability. Public and private interpretations of the meaning of affluence and poverty will be examined in detail with a special focus on national mega-events such as EXPO. The discourse of post-disaster recovery will be introduced as a mitigating area aiming at SDG global agenda. |

Identify major themes in Japan's economic development from ideological, historical and cultural perspectives. Adopt a flexible perspective to the complexity of economic development, and develop an appreciation of the variety of genres addressing the experience affluence and poverty. |
