At the monthly event organized by Children and Child Care Plaza of Chuo Ward, Osaka City, I was in charge of “Let's Make a Rainbow Box,” a simple spectrograph making activity, together with Isoai Tatsuya-san, Ohata Hazuki-san, and Okubo Shuto-san of our Astronomy Seminar students, which was enjoyed by about 10 pairs of parents and children.

At the 2021 Wakayama University Degree Conferment Ceremony (Graduation Ceremony for undergraduates and graduates), Uenoyama Sachito-san (Arpa player, the president of Atelier Kou) of our Astronomy Seminar attended as valedictorian of the Graduate School of Education and also received the President of Graduate School of Education Award for her outstanding achievement.

21 March 2022 (Monday, Vernal Equinox Day)


Astronomy Day in Schools project is one of the activities of the WG of Astronomy Education Research & Methods, Comission C1: Astronomy Education and Development, Division C: Education, Outreach and Heritage, IAU. The quarterly on-line communication events on the occasion of equinoxes and solstices have been organized by ITAU, Iranian Teacher's Astronomy Union, and SINA, Student's International Network for Astronomy, in Iran. This time, titled “Nowruz: Equinox, A Time for Peace,” messages from Iran and Japan were introduced, and members of the sub WG of Astronomy Day in Schools discussed about present status and future perspective of the project.

I served as one of the organizers with Iranian team and introduced messages from Japan with Ayani Kazuya-san. Students and teachers from Iran, Romania, Bulgaria, Italy, Spain, India, Mexico, Brazil, Tanzania, Thailand and Japan presented cultural aspects of the December solstice.

I had a one-hour star-watching event for 5th graders of Shikago-kita elementary school, Wakayama City, at two day-camp at Kada International Exchange Youth Center. Isoai Tatsuya-san, a seiminar student, joined and observed the activity. We enjoyed by our naked eyes watching the International Space Spation passing just above us, the Moon of lunar age 5, the planets Venus, Saturn, and Jupiter, and the Summer Triangle and the Northern Corss still hanging around high in the western sky.

The Society of Japan Science Teaching Official On-Line Community regular discussion meeting was held for the first time, and I participated in it. I enjoyed discussion with other participants in a warm atmosphere about how to deepen the discussion in the class with experiment practice and how to evaluate the sentiment.

On 21 June 2021, Universe Awareness Malaysia = Apadilangit organized Malaysia - East Asia Universe Awareness Solar Eclipse 2020 (MY-EAUNIVASE) which relayed ten countries/areas, Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei, Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines, Vietnam, Korea, Taiwan, Japan, broadcasted from Kuala Lumpur. The digest of the broadcast is here. The event of MY-EAUNIVASE won the second prize of Award 3: Outstanding Online Event of Astronomy@Home Awards 2020 organized by OAO, IAU. I participated in the event from Japan, as a member of Japanese group YouTube live program, From North to South in Japan, “Observe the Partical Solar Eclipse on the Summer Solstice Day!” (from the official channel of Faculty of Tourism, Wakayama University).


The research by the students of the Astronomy Group of the Science Club of Sanda Shounkan Highschool to determine the distance to the Moon from the parallax of the Moon during the total lunar eclipse on May 26, 2021, won the top prize in the oral presentation in the Natural Science Division of the Hyogo Prefecture High School Comprehensive Culture Festival. I supported Kishimoto Hiroshi-san and other teachers of the high school along with Handa Toshihiro-san of Kagoshima University. Many people in Japan and abroad had helped these high school students in their research by providing photographic data.

I observed a class by Yoshimoto Kei-san who was now doing his teacher training at Wakayama City Shikago-Kita Elementary School. Thanks to the kindness of Iwasaki Aasakura-sensei, who supervised the trainee, and system of school, I was able to observe the class remotely.


ITAU, Iranian Teacher's Astronomy Union, and SINA, Student's International Network for Astronomy, organized an on-line presentation on the student's practice of finding latitude by determining the solar altitude from the length of the shadow, on the occasion of the autumnal equinox, in which I and Dr. Kazuya Ayani (Bisei Observatory, Astronomers Without Borders, National Coordinator, Japan) from Japan participated.

ITAU, Iranian Teacher's Astronomy Union, and SINA, Student's International Network for Astronomy, organized “Tirgan, the International Event for Summer Solstice,” held over zoom. I served as one of the organizers with Iranian team and introduced messages from Japan. Students and teachers from Iran, Romania, Bulgaria, Italy, Spain, Qatar, Brazil, Malaysia and Japan presented cultural aspects of the summer solstice.

I serve chair of NAEC, National Astronomy Education Coordinator team, of Japan, under OAE, Office of Astronomy for Education, IAU, International Astronomical Union, endorced by the IAU Division of Science Council of Japan.


As for the toral lunar eclipse in the evening on the day, the YouTube program Tonton dan Menang: Gerhana Bulan Penuh Perigee picked up my comments on air, by Apadilangit = Universe Awareness Malaysia (Website / Facebook / YouTube channel): cover of the program / comment 1 / comment 2 / comment 3.
