1st Astronomical Observation Class was held at
Okayama Astrophysical Observatory.
Four students from Okayama University and four students
from Hiroshima University attended the class.
Together with other staff, I gave lectures for the class.

I stayed at Kiso Observatory for the open use
(dome of 105-cm Schmidt).
Takeuchi-san (NAOJ/IoA),
Wakayama University students (Kinoshita-kun, Minamoto-kun, Furukawa-kun,
Nishibata-kun, Yamamot-san) helped observation.
This time, we could make a remote operation of the telescope
from the main building.
Students have learned many things about observation;
Takeuchi-san sometimes gave instructions

I drew a field of view of the 2K CCD camera on the finder display

visited our laboratory.
I introduced astronomy seminar at Wakayama University,
showed solar image at Univeristy astronomical observatory.

I attended Kinki regional meeting of Astronomical Educaion
held at Osaka Kyoiku University Tennoji Campus.

I stayed at Nobeyama Radio Observatory for observations using
45-m single dish telescope.
During the observations allocated in early February,
we met a machine trouble.
Then, we can have another one day for the observation.
The weather condition was not good:
fine -> cloudy -> foggy -> rainy -> snowing,
but with data taken when it was fine and cloudy,
we somehow detected some emissions.

Kamitamari-san reported about events held in mid February
including relay of aurora image.

I stayed at Nobeyama Radio Observatory for observations using
45-m single dish telescope.
Our project was to detect CO emission in dwarf irregular galaxies,
conducted by Dr. Deidre Hunter.
T.T.Takeuchi-san joined our observations and discussion.
Though they were weak, we somehow detected some emission lines.
We had 15 to 16 straight hours observation lobor a day.

In the control room, the WS ayame controls the data acquisition

The WS kakehasi controls a new auto guiding system
that is developed by Dr. Miyata of Kiso Observatory

On 11 November, ontake crashed seriously.
We opened the main body of ontake to cool

At night of 12 November, we had a clear sky.

I visited Kiso Observatory, Institute of Astronomy, University of Tokyo.
The theme was Surface Photometry of Nearby Dwarf Irregular Galaxies,
and it was a part of my project of obtaining area-integrated SEDs of
dwarf irregular galaxies.
As a test, we had an allocated term of nights from 30 April to 4 May.
Unfortunately, we had only one clear night.
-
Dr. Miyata kindly told us how to control the system.
