授業の概要・ねらい
/Course Aims
Think about your last holiday. Was fun, great even? But have you ever stopped to consider the broader ethical issues, concerns and dilemmas of the tourism industry and personal travel? This course titled Ethics of Tourism Research B is aimed at understanding these broader questions of tourism and travel from an ethics and justice perspective. The ethics of tourism and travel is about questing what tourism and travel is, how it works, and what it does to cultures, environments and societies. These are ethical concerns more than managerial ones. Together we will examine the complex ethical challenges facing the tourism industry today and explore how ethical thinking can encourage critical and creative analysis of a complex range tourism issues and contexts.

履修上の注意 ・メッセージ
/Notice for Students
I see teaching and learning as a fundamentally social activity. This course is first and foremost about interaction between people, conversation, discussion and debate. With this in mind there are three class expectations:
Read.
Engage / experiment.
Discuss.
Our collective task is to develop the skills (sense) to think critically about all forms of tourism and for critically reflecting on tourism to make a change.
履修する上で必要な事項
/Prerequisite
The class will be conducted in English, but more emphasis will be placed on sharing and discussing ideas rather than perfecting English grammar. Some Japanese will necessarily be needed to explore the different approaches to ethics and different worldview. The ethical topics presented in class have no right or wrong answers and are always open for debate. This class will therefore aim to have a fun, engaging and intellectual learning environment.
