授業の概要・ねらい
/Course Aims
Cultural and lifestyle differences are currently important sources of tourist attractions. This topic examines how these differences are utilized in tourism, exploring three key themes: slums, urban ethnic districts, and gay quarters. It also discusses the ethical issues surrounding the consumption of ethnic and minority cultures through tourism.
到達目標
/Course Objectives
By the end of the course, students are required to understand: (1) the characteristics of the commodification of ethnic and minority cultures and lifestyles in the context of tourism; (2) the roles of governments and policymakers in the development of ethnic and minority tourism; and (3) the ethical issues surrounding the consumption of ethnic and minority cultures and lifestyles as tourist attractions.
成績評価の方法・基準

Students will be evaluated based on:
(1) participation in group discussion (40%)
(2) presentation (60%)

This course will be conducted in English. Students are required to participate in discussions and give presentations in English. The lectures are delivered online; however, students at Wakayama University are generally required to attend the class in person.

/Instructions for studying outside class hours
According to the course plan, the students need to spend at least 2 hour in preparing for, and 2 hour in reviewing, the lecture each week. The students are also required to do assignments, read literature and research on issues related to the topics of each lecture.
