授業の概要・ねらい
/Course Aims
This is a graduate school course. It will provide insights with two important analytical angles, 'ecology' and 'landscape' to develop knowledge on change in the natural environment of tourism destinations. The course will mainly deal with Protected Areas (PA) such as national parks, wilderness reserves and UNESCO World Natural Heritage areas. Through these, students will also be able to develop in-depth knowledge of complex issues in nature based tourism planning and implementation and familiarize themselves with a number of case studies.

Students are expected to
a. Develop knowledge of critical issues faced by natural destinations today.
b. Analyze the ecological landscape and nature of human impact on it
c. develop the knowhow of monitoring natural areas
d. Learn about visitor management strategies
e. Develop analytical skills to write about critical issues in natural area tourism and present logically consistent arguments.

Students will be asked to present or one or more issues covered in the class. They will also be required to undertake reading assignments, and to write a final report.
