授業の概要・ねらい
/Course Aims
This program aims to present fundamentals of sustainable destination management. Using international sustainable tourism standards as a tool, (eg GSTC, JSTS-D, ETIS), we will consider 1) how a destination may understand its specific features, strengths and weaknesses as a destination, 2) how we may involve community members, 3) how tourists may be directed/controlled in their behavior. Consideration will be given from destination point of view (policy, community) rather than visitors and business, although they obviously play critical role in making destinations more sustainable. Case studies may be from the viewpoint of individual tourist (consumer), industry or destination (eg town, region, nation), from national and international examples, both positive and negative. Discussion and presentation based on research and analysis is valued in this subject to promote critical perspective essential in dealing with the issues of sustainability.
