授業の概要・ねらい
/Course Aims
This is a Global Program (GP) 2.0 undergraduate course. Students who are aiming to write their undergraduate dissertation in Japanese are strongly recommended to take this course. Besides, students who are willing to learn both fundamentals of conducting research, writing up reports, and conducting good presentations are also very much welcome.
The main objectives of the course are:
(i) making students familiar with academic writing standards and key skills of writing such as organizing paragraphs, topic sentences, core arguments, and logical flow.
(ii) making students develop reading and comprehension skills--especially the skill to read a large volume of materials quickly and effectively.
(iii) enabling students to process and organize information
(iv) making students familiar with key oral presentation skills
(v) raising awareness of ethics in research and writing.
到達目標
/Course Objectives
Students taking this course will
(i) develop reading and comprehension skills
(ii) be able to process information independently and critically
(iii) develop report writing skills (academic writing) especially reference and annotated bibliography
(iv) develop oral presentation skills in English

Especially, the course will aim to train students in basic academic writing and reading/comprehension skills. It will be essential for completing the GP 2.0 program.
成績評価の方法・基準
/Grading Policies/Criteria
Students must be active throughout the course. Regular presence and participation in the class are mandatory.
Specific grading benchmarks are:
Class assignments (group work): 30%, Oral presentations (group work) 20%, Report (Individual) 30%, Preparing a bibliography (Individual): 20%

Students are strongly encouraged to take part in group work outside class hours (will be directed during the lectures), they should also spend time in the library or at the internet reading materials, organizing information, and broadening their knowledge.

Basically I am available 1 pm -5 pm on workdays excepting class or research trips. Particularly the following timings are advised for consultation.
