授業の概要・ねらい
/Course Aims
Students will work together with the instructor and classmates in an online format via the conferencing application Zoom and the educational management tool Schoology to develop foundational academic skills essential to success in an international academic or research environment.
到達目標
/Course Objectives
This course is the first in a series of three academic skills courses meant to prepare students for study as a student in an international educational institution and to participate in international academic or research discussions in the field of tourism. Students will learn essential techniques for understanding authentic texts produced in English, how to share their viewpoints on a variety of topics succinctly in speech and writing, and how to improve writing and English expression, including by using texts as examples of genre-based writing, while adhering to the norms of Western academic honesty.
成績評価の方法・基準
/Grading Policies/Criteria
Presentations 45% Presentation 1 (20%)  PowerPoint and in-class presentation , Presentation 2 (25%)       PowerPoint, short essay, and in-class presentation
Homework 20% Assignments will be submitted on Schoology
Speed Reading 10 % Weekly speed reading activities (via Schoology)
Vocabulary Quizzes     10 % Ten vocabulary quizzes based on in-class discussions and homework (via Schoology)
Participation 15% Based on preparedness for lessons; active student involvement in class and breakout rooms
