授業の概要・ねらい
/Course Aims
Events have been ubiquitous in our society. Major sport and cultural events have the potential to contribute to the host communities economically, socially, and environmentally. Moreover, well-organized events can stimulate human mobility, attending participants, spectators, and supporters as tourists, establishing a tight relationship with the tourism industry. Many tourism-related organizations are now engaging in those events. However, it has become clear that poor management of events can severely damage the host communities. These contexts show the importance of understanding the effective management of events, especially in their interaction with tourism. This course responds to these societal needs. Therefore, this course aims to provide an understanding of key concepts and frameworks essential for managing events that attract tourists.
到達目標
/Course Objectives
Through taking this course, students should be able to:
1. Gain knowledge of the concepts and frameworks associated with managing events that attract tourists;
2. Apply knowledge regarding event management in various contexts to identify both similarities and differences;
3. Integrate knowledge regarding event management with emerging trends, topics and practices, and then, share these insights with their peers; and
4. Develop their academic English skills—reading, listening, writing, and speaking—by studying event management in English.
成績評価の方法・基準
/Grading Policies/Criteria
Each student’s final score will be determined as follows. Weights indicate the contribution of each activity to the final grade. Details of each activity will be provided in class.
1. In-class activities (group discussion and short writing activities): 20%
2. Individual report (the topic is to be determined): 30%
3. Group presentation on the topic of "event bidding": 50%

/Reference Book
Journal articles, book chapters, industry/government reports, and newspaper/magazine articles will be used as course readings. Course readings will be provided in the class.

/Notice for Students
As this is a GP 2.0 course subject, all teaching will be conducted in English. Students are expected to have sufficient English proficiency (about IELTS 5.0-6.0) to read English materials, listen to lectures, write reports, and make presentations. Having said that, as one of the course objectives is to develop students' academic English skills, anyone eager to study event management in English is welcome.
