授業の概要・ねらい /Course Aims |
This topic will explore how urban tourism can be studied from cultural and political perspectives. The lectures consist of three parts. The first part provides an overview of urban tourism and the rest (the second and the third parts) look at two thematic areas central to contemporary urban tourism. The first theme, urban revitalization for tourism, examines how the city changed its spaces from the site of production into the site of consumption in the post-industrial time. The second theme, landscapes, looks into creation, and ways of using, visual images of cities as tourist attractions. |

According to the course plan, the students need to spend at least one hour in preparing for, and one hour in reviewing, the lecture each week. The students are also required to do assignments, and read literature and research on issues related to the topics of each lecture. Information in this course will be provided based on Law (2002) for Part 1 and Hayllar, Griffin, & Edwards (Eds.) (2008), Selby (2004) & Vanolo (2018) for Parts 2. |
