This is a lecture-based course designed to provide a comprehensive overview of the history of the English language (with special interest given to the needs of Japanese learners and, especially, future teachers of English). |

到達目標 ／Course Objectives |
After an introduction to fundamental linguistic concepts, students will explore the origins English and the dramatic ways that it has changed over the last 13 centuries. Students will discover how English is related to other languages of the world and how it might be expected to change in the future as a global language. |

Grades will be based on weekly quizzes, a mid-term test and a final exam. |
