授業の概要・ねらい
/Course Aims
The important lessons to be drawn about the future of the Japanese economy are the subject of intense debate. Arguably, the Japanese model of economic development constituted an ideal reference for developing economies, but it has been showing signs of serious fault lines over the past decades. The Japanese asset bubble and its burst have shed light on the difficult interrelations between banking, asset valuation, investment expenditure, corporate finance and monetary policy. The challenges posed by financial crises in terms of the coordination of social, economic and monetary policies provide some valuable lessons for developed economies as well. Thus, there is a need to understand the unique features of the Japanese economy and financial system given the serious challenges posed by changing demographics, disrupting technologies, and growing international competition. Some theoretical perspectives are discussed based on relevant information from economic and monetary institutions as well as research based on financial and economic databases. The analysis can be useful in understanding the dynamics of the Japanese economy and global finance. Given the implications of economic uncertainty and financial instability for corporate finance and business management, this course serves the purposes of multidisciplinary educational programs such as Corporate Analysis and Evaluation, and Global Business and Economy, inter alia.
