授業の概要・ねらい
/Course Aims
In a dynamic, competitive and knowledge-based economy, it is imperative for students, who will grow into future generations of savers, investors, and managers to gain a solid understanding of the fundamentals of finance. This introductory course covers the defining principles of finance theory, including the concepts of time value of money, investment decisions, risk measures and expected return, among others. This knowledge will be useful in undertaking more challenging lectures about international financial markets, and the Japanese finance and economy, which are part of the integrated programs on "Corporate Analysis and Evaluation" as well as "Global Business and Economy".

/Course Objectives
Students are expected to make significant efforts toward the active acquisition of the body of knowledge and analytical skills needed for the development of problem-solvers by pursuing the following objectives:

1. the use of fundamental knowledge of finance to understand financial information
2. the construction of critical perspectives of the theory underpinning financial practices
3. the improvement of multilingual communication skills required for significant interactions in multicultural environments

The contents of lectures on "Foundations of Finance" require the prior completion of courses related to microeconomics, mathematics, and statistics.

The lectures on "Foundations of Finance" draw in part on knowledge in microeconomics, statistics and mathematics. Students interested in multidisciplinary educational programs such as "Corporate Analysis and Evaluation" and "Global Business and Economy" are advised to undertake "Foundations of Finance", followed by the two courses on "International Financial Markets, and finally “Japanese Finance and Economy."
授業時間外学修についての指示
/Instructions for studying outside class hours
Students are required to review the contents of previous lectures, and solve the assigned problem-sets, which serve to improve the level of knowledge and understanding in finance. Individual readings and group discussions of news and reports related to finance are strongly recommended.
